Sustainable Concept House Boerne, Texas
Join us in sponsoring the Sustainable Concept House, a LEED
certified residential demonstration project that will showcase best practices
and innovative products for sustainable building in the Texas Hill Country.
Green Building Features
A home can be beautiful, functional and sustainable.
This home will feature:
• Rainwater harvesting for all potable needs
• Gray water storage for irrigation
• Solar hot water heating
• High efficiency/low emission insulation
• Non-toxic paints and materials
• Ultra efficient mechanical systems & appliances
• Ultra efficient plumbing and fixtures
• Latest eco-friendly interior products
• Indigenous, recycled & reclaimed materials
Medical Study
The home will be part of a medical study examining the impact of home
environment on allergy and asthma, while evaluating how a “healthy house”
can improve quality of life.
Continuing Education
For 3 years after completion of the home, the Cibolo Nature Center will
coordinate continuing education programs for both architects and the
general public. Topics include: Health & Safety, Passive Solar, Active Solar,
Sustainable Building Materials & Methods, Rainwater Harvesting, Gray
Water Capture/Re-use and LEED for residential certification workshops.
Coursework will be conducted at the Cibolo Nature Center with field trips to
the Sustainable Concept House.
Media Exposure
With numerous media commitments in place, the Sustainable Concept
House will be featured in several national, regional and local media outlets.
It is also scheduled to be included in the 2009 San Antonio AIA Fall tour of
homes.
Cibolo Nature Center
During the 1-week general public open house event, an admission price
of $5.00 will be collected to support the Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne for
their mission of conservation education (www.cibolo.org).
